How do you create and manage categories?

In this article, you will learn how to create and manage new categories. You will also learn how you can exclude categories for tools you don't want your learners to have access to.

categories

You are not required to make your categories fit into our predetermined categories and can create your own parent categories and then two more levels of subcategories! Not only that, but these categories will now appear when you are creating PD sessions in Events.

From your HQ Dashboard, click the content tab and choose categories. You can also add Manage Categories to your Quick Actions sidebar by clicking the edit button and adding it there.

1- content tab

You will see the categories that MobileMind already has created. Click New Category from the upper right of this box.

2- new category

Choose an image for your new category from our library or you can upload your own.

3- choose image

Name your new category.

4- name category

If you leave Parent Category option blank, this new category will become a Parent Category. If this new category fits into one of our predetermined categories or another category you have already created, then you will click the drop down arrow and choose which one.

5- parent caegory

You also have the option to change the background color for this category and then click Save Category.

6- category color

Click Save Category when you are ready.

7- save category

Now we will create another category to go under the one you just created. Since I created a category called Content Area, I will now create one for Science. I named it, chose an image, and changed the color. I will now click on the parent category, go to curriculum and instruction, and then Content Area. You will see the “breadcrumbs” below the parent category selection option so you can confirm that you placed this category in the right place.

8- sub category

When you go back to your HQ dashboard and choose Manage Categories again, you will see your new categories are there. The green check marks on the right side mean that your learners can view content that are in this category. If you do not want your learners to be able to view content in a particular category, simply uncheck that box.

9- saved cats

When you go to create new a course, badges, goal, or event you will see your new categories reflected there as well. Once you select the category, you will see the breadcrumbs with the parent and subcategory.
